Why line length breaks AI-generated songs

Suno and Udio read each line of your lyrics as roughly one musical phrase. That is the whole mechanic. A six-syllable line and a twenty-syllable line are asked to occupy similar musical space, so the long one gets compressed — which is what mumbling, rushed delivery, and strange mid-line breaks actually are.

Fixing it upstream costs nothing. Fixing it downstream means regenerating, which costs credits and often changes things you liked.

What the flags mean

  • May get rushed (13+ syllables) — the most common failure. Split it into two lines, or cut words that are not carrying meaning.
  • May feel abrupt (5 or fewer) — not a problem by itself. Short lines are a real device. Worth a look only if it was unintentional.

Consistency matters as much as the raw number. If verse one runs 8–9 syllables a line and verse two jumps to 14, the second verse will feel wrong even though no single line is extreme.
